Who qualifies for an account on the
main web server?
Any official New Mexico State University college or department
automatically qualifies for an account. Student organizations
that are charted through ASNMSU are also eligible.

How do I get a web page for my college/department/student
organization?
Accounts can be obtained by obtained by completing the following

Are there any charges associated
with the account?
There are no charges for the account itself. Charges will be
accrued if the account requires more disk space than its allotted
quota (see FAQ #5).

What settings do I use to publish
my web page?
Dreamweaver, Netscape Composer and Frontpage
all have built in capabilities to publish web pages, but each
requires different settings.

An alternative is to use an FTP client. Recommended
FTP clients include WS_FTP
or AbsoluteFTP
for PCs and Transmit
for Macs. You will need to type in your server. Ex:
www.nmsu.edu. Then type in your username and password
and you are ready to ftp your files.

How much space is allocated
for each account?
Colleges and departments are allocated 50 Mb. Student organizations
are allocated 20 Mb.

How do I read my email?
You can read your mail several ways:
You can read your email by visiting the NMSU
homepage and clicking on the e-mail button, or visit the
page directly:
http://webmail.nmsu.edu/.
Enter your username and password. For "Server" make
sure you select WWW from the drop down box.
You can also read your e-mail using a terminal emulator to
telnet or SSH to the server. Make sure to connect to www.nmsu.edu.

How do I change my password?
To change your password, you need to log on
to your account. At the prompt, type:
passwd
You will then be prompted to enter your current password, and
then your new password twice.
When choosing your password, remember not
to use something easily guessed or common. A good password should
be at least 6 characters long, something not found in the dictionary,
and have a good combination of letters, numbers and special
characters (!,@,#, etc.)

I forgot my password. How do
I have it reset?
If you have lost or forgotten your password, contact webmaster@nmsu.edu.
You will need to provide some proof of identity. For example,
if you need access to a student club account, you'll need to
have the club advisor contact us and verify your identity.

What kinds of applications are
available on the web server?
The main NMSU webserver (www.nmsu.edu) has CGI capabilities,
MySQL, PHP and PERL installed.
