Setting up Dreamweaver to Publish Webpages

  1. Choose Site > Edit Sites
  2. Click on the Basic tab at the top of the dialog box
  3. Name your site

Choose a name that you wish to call your site.

  4. Next, you will be prompted if you want to use a server technology. Choose No, I do not want to use a server technology and click the Next button.

  5. Editing Files

This step gives you a number of options when editing your files. Choose Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready (recommended).

  6. Configuring server access

This screen configures how you will transfer your files from your PC or MAC to the server.

    How do you connect
    to your remote server?
This specifies how you want to transfer your files from your local computer to the server. Chose FTP for this option.

What is the hostname or FTP address of your Web server?
This is the name of the server you want to connect to. Enter www.nmsu.edu

What folder on the server do you want to store your files in?

This tells Dreamweaver where on the server the folder for your account is. This varies from account to account, but always begins with /home/wsc13/pub_html/

This path is sent to you when your account is created. If you need to find out what it is, you can email webmaster@nmsu.edu and request it. Remember to include the account name.

    What is your FTP Login?
This is the login id or account name for your account. This was sent to you when your account was created.

    What is your FTP Password?
This is the password that was supplied to you when your account was created. If you have forgotten your password, please read:
Web Services FAQ - How Do I Reset My Password?

  7. Enabling Check-Out

This feature allows you to check out a file while editing. This locks the file so that others can not make changes to it while you are working on it. Do not choose to use this option unless you are collaborating with others in your site development.
  8. Summary

The final screen you will see is the summary of the settings for your site.

To finish, click on Done. If you like to configure advanced options, you can click on the Advanced tab.
