USING THE PICO EDITOR

Overview

Pico is a very simple type of word processor that allows you to create a new file and enter information, or open an existing file and make changes to that file. Text is simply typed in, and commands are done by executing a CTRL key sequence.

Moving The Cursor
desired movement	keystroke(s)	mnemonic
up a line		or ctrl-p	previous line
down a line		or ctrl-n	next line
left a character	or ctrl-b	backward
right a character	or ctrl-f	forward
right a word		ctrl-@ or ctrl-space
beginning of line	ctrl-a
end of line		ctrl-e
page down		ctrl-v
page up			ctrl-y
Deleting Text
desired outcome	keystroke
delete previous character	backspace
delete current character	ctrl-d
delete/kill the line	ctrl-k
Moving A Line Of Text
  1. Position the cursor on the line you want to move.
  2. Press ctrl-k. The line will be deleted.
  3. Place the cursor in the new location where you want the line to be placed.
  4. Press ctrl-u to paste the line into the new location.

Inserting A File

Press ctrl-r then type [filename] and press return. This command will insert the specified file at the location of the cursor.
