Prompts

Once you've logged onto one of the ICT servers, using your User ID and your password , you're now in the UNIX environment. You are given a place to enter your command, such as
pine
to read your email. This line to enter commands is known as a prompt. The format of the prompt may vary from machine to machine, but it still serves the same function, as a way for you to enter commands. An example might be:
dante[%1]
If you see a number, it's nothing to worry about. It's just the UNIX environment's way of keeping track of what you entered, and should be ignored.
