Information and Communication Technologies

The office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is located in the Computer Center building, Room 201, on the Las Cruces campus of New Mexico State University (NMSU).

The CIO, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for IT policy throughout the NMSU system, as well as the central computing resources managed through Information and Communication Technologies.

Primary IT governance to the CIO comes from the Student Technology Advisory Committee, the Faculty Advisory Committee on Technology , University Executive Committee, and University Administrative Committee.

Current initiatives of the office of the CIO include statewide networking collaborations, improving IT project management, improving communication of IT costs and value to the university community, upgrading internal campus network infrastructure to support IPv6, and recognizing innovative IT solutions coming from the IT campus community.

 

 

 

Dr. Shaun Cooper, Ph.D. - CIO

Dr. Shaun Cooper, Ph.D., has served as CIO since 2008. Dr. Cooper joined the Computer Center in 1988, contributing to several technology areas. These areas include Unix systems administration, data volume visualization, deploying web-based student registration, and leading technical teams through the ERP implementation starting in 2003. Dr. Cooper has served as chair of Employee Council, been a member of University Executive Council, member of University Administrative Council, and a long-term board member of the New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge.
