myNMSU Portal Update

The MyNMSU Portal (my.nmsu.edu) was restored at 10 PM on April 21, 2008.

This is intended to be a more technical explanation of the email that was sent to the general NMSU community yesterday. Some folks have expressed interest in additional detail.

Sungard has run load tests with up to 4,500 simultaneous logins (three to four times of our maximum load)and has been unable to duplicate the MyNMSU malfunction. Sungard was able to duplicate the offending error message that the system had reached a maximum thread count. Even with Sungard's efforts, their testing may not be sufficiently accurate because they did not use a CPIP connection, which is how a typical user connects.

ICT was able to duplicate the hang in DBAN using the ID of an INB user that was not appropriately listed in the GOEAC table. ICT has identified 16 such occurrences and has corrected each occurrence. In addition, ICT has optimized some queries that were less than optimal as result of the Oracle 10G upgrade. Other settings have been changed to better reflect our computing environment.

ICT is continuing to work with Sungard and has implemented monitoring mechanisms to quickly resolve problems should they be encountered. If an issue arises with the restored MyNMSU portal, the alternate link, http://www2.nmsu.edu/my/, will continue to be available to you.
