Oracle License

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The following Oracle products and platforms have been purchased through the
Banner ERP Project for campus-wide use:

  1. Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition, All Platforms
  2. Oracle Diagnostics Pack, All Platforms
  3. Oracle Tuning Pack, All Platforms
  4. Oracle Internet Application Server - Enterprise Edition, All Platforms

Oracle Core Technology Description

Oracle9i Enterprise Edition (Oracle9i) provides efficient, reliable, secure data management for high-end applications such as high volume on-line transaction processing (OLTP) environments, query-intensive data warehouses, and demanding Internet applications. Oracle9i Enterprise Edition provides the tools and functionality to meet the availability and scalability requirements of today's mission-critical applications for the enterprise.

Oracle Diagnostics Pack enables database administrators to perform advanced monitoring, diagnosis, and planning for the Oracle environment. Diagnostics Pack, an extension to Oracle Enterprise Manager, helps DBAs effectively monitor, diagnose, and plan within the Oracle database environment. By easing the administrative burden of managing an enterprise's database environment and providing superior ease of use, customers will reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of their Oracle-based systems.

Oracle Tuning Pack provides database administrators with expert performance management for the Oracle environment, including SQL tuning and storage optimization. Oracle Tuning Pack, an extension to Oracle Enterprise Manager, helps DBAs optimize their Oracle database systems. By tuning and optimizing the Oracle environment, your customers will reduce their total cost of ownership by avoiding costly upgrades of hardware, memory, and disks. The Tuning Pack evaluates the entire Oracle environment including SQL statements, access methods, system and storage configuration parameters, and considers interactions between these aspects of system performance.

Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) is the industry's fastest, most complete and reliable J2EE-certified application server. Oracle9iAS has revolutionized the application server market by being the first to integrate all the technology required to develop and deploy e-business portals, transactional applications, and Web services into a single product.

ELIGIBILITY
  1. Internet access to the above Oracle Campus-Wide products are available to full-time and part-time students, faculty, and staff for viewing, querying, or adding data associated with administrative, teaching, research, or community service functions .
  2. Oracle Academic Initiative (OAI) and Oracle Workforce Development Program (WDP) or successor programs that may replace OAI/WDP. The OAI/WDP membership fee will be waived for any department that elects to incorporate Oracle Programs into its classroom teaching .

    Teaching departments may apply for the free membership at http://oai.oracle.com or http://workforce.oracle.com . Once the teaching department is established as an OAI/WDP member, the department will be licensed to use the Programs available under OAI/WDP for the purposes set forth in the applicable agreement.

HOW CAN I OBTAIN THE SOFTWARE?

High speed internet access is recommended to download the licensed software from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) website links below:

Note: Only products listed in the NMSU Campus License Agreement above can be downloaded for use (i.e. Partitioning, Clusters, etc. are not available). You do not need to purchase a 1 year subscription from OTN. Products not under the campus license maybe downloaded for free to be used for a 30 day trial period. If you plan to use the software at home, please complete an At Home Agreement and return to Lydia Torres at software@nmsu.edu.


HOW DO I GET PRODUCT SUPPORT, UPDATES, AND PATCHES?

The annual product support cost for the Oracle Campus-Wide products is being paid through the Banner ERP Project through fiscal year 2006-2007. Existing university users of the above Oracle products do not need to purchase annual product support until fiscal year 2007-2008 when they may be asked to contribute to the ongoing annual product support cost.

Those meeting the above eligibility requirements can have access to Oracle's product support website called Metalink ( metalink.oracle.com ). Metalink is Oracle Support Services' premier web support service. Oracle MetaLink is FREE for Oracle customers with current product support contracts. Oracle MetaLink leverages the Internet for quick and immediate access to technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Oracle MetaLink allows you to access support whenever and wherever you need so you can enhance productivity and minimize business disruption. To obtain a Metalink account, please present a valid NMSU ID at the Instructional Support Services (ISS) department located in the Computer Center Building , Room 143. You will need to provide your name , department , campus phone number , and a valid NMSU email address to verify your eligibility. When eligibility is confirmed, ISS will provide your information to Database Administration, an account will be created, and you will be notified via email.
