Scientific Workplace/Notebook Software License

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

TCI Software Research Company was the creator of Scientific Workplace and Scientific Notebook software. This company was headed by Dr. Roger Hunter who, at one time, was a postdoctoral fellow and faculty member at NMSU. Due to Dr. Hunter’s close ties with NMSU, in March of 1996, TCI granted NMSU an unlimited campus-wide site license to use Scientific Workplace and Scientific Notebook. TCI Software Research Company was later sold. Since TCI no longer owns Scientific Workplace/Notebook software, we are unable to receive upgrades through the gift site license granted to us by TCI. However, the latest version of this software is available by contacting MacKichan Software via their website at http://www.mackichan.com. Version 2.5 is still available through the original gift site license.

Scientific Workplace allows the user to create, edit, and typeset mathematical and scientific text. Scientific Notebook allows the user to easily create documents that contain text, mathematics and graphics. Scientific Workplace is available for Windows and Mac. Scientific Notebook is available for Windows only. For more information about this software, go to http://www.mackichan.com.

The Scientific Workplace/Scientific Notebook site license allows NMSU employees to install this software on NMSU owned computers. This software is free of charge.

NMSU does not have a home use agreement for this software.

HOW CAN I GET SOFTWARE MEDIA?

Scientific Workplace and Scientific Notebook media are available from the Information & Communication Technologies, Instructional Support Services department located in the Computer Center Building, Room 143.

Faculty/staff may borrow the media for a period of three working days at no charge. ICT/ISS will keep your NMSU faculty/staff ID until the software media is returned.
